The Transformation Worksheet is a single-page thinking tool for change leaders working on technology and innovation initiatives in infrastructure programmes.
It exists to answer three questions clearly:
- What is the Primary Transformation Objective we are trying to achieve?
- Does this initiative materially affect the capital project delivery critical path?
- What are the best next actions to protect or unlock that outcome?
If the Transformation Worksheet does not help answer these questions, it is being misused.
How it works
The Transformation Worksheet is completed by the Change Leader before a structured conversation with their coach, typically their manager, a sponsor or senior stakeholder. It is a thinking exercise, not an approval step. The aim is clarity, not completeness.
Top row — anchoring the initiative. The Primary Transformation Objective, the solution as a hypothesis, and the business case split between critical path benefit and direct ROI.
Middle section — focus and realism. Stakeholders mapped diagnostically by role, influence, and support. Current priorities limited to those that sit on or directly affect the capital project delivery critical path. Key dates for gates and decisions. The top three risks across adoption, integration, and value.
Bottom section — judgement and options. An honest summary of the current position, possible actions listed without filtering, and best next actions agreed in the conversation.
The output is shared clarity and agreed actions.
How to use it
The Transformation Worksheet provides the basis for structured conversation focussed on risk and outcomes, rather than deliverables.
A useful flow is to confirm the Primary Transformation Objective, challenge whether the solution genuinely delivers a benefit worth the effort, test whether priorities are focused on what is limiting progress, explore risks honestly and early, discuss BAU readiness, and agree a small number of best next actions.
Return to it regularly. It is a live document, not a one-time exercise, or governance deliverable.
